I painted the Dark Troopers for The Mandalorian, used in both the final episode and episode 6 of season 2. Unlike many paint tasks in the Star Wars universe. These droids were to look clean and "fresh out of the box". But that dosn't mean they are free from texture :) I focused on painting in subtle smudges, dust accumulation in crevasses, little dings and scratches, and broad breakup to spec and displacement. There are plenty of detail to go around, even a micro pattern in his glowing eyes and oil staining in the chrome metallic bits. Given that we knew how close we were getting to these guys, I spent plenty of time up close to make sure the detail would hold up where it was needed. As always this was a team effort and I want to say thanks to all my friends at ILM for helping make these droids look so cool!
